Well it really depends; I guess you can call it the ultimate sandbox game. There's really no goal other than to survive. Every game, you're thrown in into a completely randomly generated world which is literally infinite. You can decide to hike it in one direction and the game will just keep generating terrain as you go along!
A few things to know though; Since Dec 20th, the game has gone into beta, which means the price increased from 9.99 Euros to 20 Euros (about 25$). The game is still in development, so a few bugs can creep in from time to time (lol! Did you see what I did there? Get it?). It's usually nothing to big, but as they say on the minecraft forums, don't get too attached to your save files just in case… Finally, there is a huge list of things that you can craft, but no way in-game to find out other than trial and error. For this, I highly suggest you visit the minecraft wiki.
Me, I highly suggest the game, but then again, I really like the whole random world aspect and the exploring. Your mileage, of course, may vary…

I've played minecraft on and off. It's fun, I guess. More of a time waster tbh. Also, if you want to *seriously* build your own houses and stuff, it's better to do so on your own single-player server or host your own while playing with friends.

The original graphics don't look too terrible, but there are texture packs available here and there with some being quite good.

Minecraft is definitely one of my favourite games. I've been playing for a year now and show no signs of stopping. And if I start to get bored of the vanilla game, I can always use mods, texture packs, and adventure maps to change it up.
