Ummm.... I really am no expert on this subject because I have never truly seen an emo or goth in it's truest sense but from what i've seen from the various emos/goths on the internet it seems that emo people tend to have longer hair than goths, in the sense that they keep their hair long for the purpose of covering one eye for whatever reason that maybe, they also tend to dye their hair flamboyant colours and they tend to wear tight jeans for some reason (this is all from what i've seen over in youtube, myspace etc...)

A goth typically wears dark clothing all the time, put on eye liner and well actually i can't think of anything else... if there are goths or emos out there reading this please correct me ( as I said this is all from observation of the many emos/goths on the internet).

Well I have a Goth friend and an Emo one. Basically when I see those two, I don't see a similarity. Emo would be more likely be classified as a rebellious fashion statement, leaning more on self expression. While Goth would be more of a way of life rather than fashion.

Emos tend to wear really tight clothes, Goths prefer looser fit clothes (the men at least)
Emos tend to wear more slime line like jewerly, while Goths often have spiked necklaces or wristbands

Emos are more styled, I guess metro sexual. I think Goth goes for the slightly less manicured version

Emo originated from hardcore punk, while goth from post-punk, so there are bound to be similarities here, but let's see:

Goths' clothing varies a lot - from medieval and victorian up to BDSM, so it's pretty hard to describe their style as one. What they do have in common is the black color. They also tend to wear a lot of makeup.

Emo, well, first of all, is not a subculture at all - it's a music (sub)genre. However, people are ignorant, thus, today it is mostly associated with people wearing tight jeans and shirts, dying their hair black and brushing the fringe to one side.

Emo and goth are kinda used interchangeably. But I think emo gets more ridiculed though.

couldn't of said it better myself. from what i've seen, goth started out just with dark clothes and make-up (in the late 70's i think), but got more outlandish as the years went on. it was originally a part of the post-punk scene, but it has become a sub-culture in itself

the description of emo mentioned is spot on as far as i know
