Who is your favorite? You can make a list too, because there are so many great guitarists. Yes and I make the start.
1. Ritchie Blackmore
The best, the absolutely best. He plays his songs never exactly same, when he play them again. The master of improvisation and plays with all five fingers, blind. I saw him live, it was unbelievable.
2. Tony Iommi
He has the hardest riff ever.
3. Jimmy Page
Genius, hear Dazed And Confused or Since I've Been Loving You live and you now what I mean.
4. Jim Matheos
Can play extremely hard, but then so melodic, great, only great. A master of the music arrangement.
5. Chris deGarmo and Michael Wilton
Best guitarduo ever. Can only post together. A perfect synchronisation. These riffs and solos they play are only amazing.
Ooh, so many.
Two of the best: Alexi Laiho and Kirk Hammett. Brilliant.

Yes, John Petrucci is a really good guitarist. I saw him live. The man was increadible. Joe Satriani, he's amazing. But I don't know many songs from him, like Steve Vai. Both are one of the bests, for sure. I think it is time, that I hear more from these both. The other ones... I will check out, thanks. Do you know Michael Romeo? He's also a very good player. Or David Gilmore, the guitarist of Pink Floyd? A player, who created an own style too.

1-Tom Delonge (blink-182)- Sure his guitar riffs are very simple to play, but they are catchy and they always sound good.
2- Jared Leto (30 seconds to Mars)

Check out the Anthologys by Satriani and Vai. They are basically a best-of, but there are 2 or 3 songs from every CD they have published on it, so it basically reflects their entire career as musicians.
And yeah, Romeo is amazing as well, although I only have 1 Symphony X CD at the moment
Aeonblade
Jun 6 2007, 09:51 AM
What Symphony X album do you have? I have The Divine Wings Of Tragedy and V, damn good albums, Romeo's tapping is ridiculous.

Jun 7 2007, 03:52 AM
We (my father and I) have The Divine Wings of Tragedy, Twilight in Olympus, V and The Odyssey. All very good albums. Yes I know you mentioned Walshy, but I wanted to post it too. The Anthologys? I will check out, thank you. Oh, there is one thing left. In my opinion, Mr. Romeo is better than Mr. Petrucci. Why? He plays with more feeling. His way to play is more melodious.
Aeonblade
Jun 7 2007, 04:32 AM
I really want Twilight In Olympus, but I'm up to my man tits in money I owe, so no dice until I get that straightened away. Petrucci sucks, he's a wanker of the worst degree, I'd rather listen to Michael Romeo anyday. I agree with you about Dave Gilmour, he's one of the most soulful players I've ever heard, Comfortably Numb has one of the best solos ever too.

Jun 7 2007, 05:35 PM
yes Michael Romeo is really good. Saying Petrucci sucks is a little bit provocation? lol! And as I love Pink Floyd, I agree with everyone who says that Gilmour is a great guitarist! I would add Chet Atkins, Marcel Dadi, Mark knopfler for their feeling.

I've read this topic and I noticed that Yngwie Malmsteen was missing, and to me he's the best guitarist ever.

Do you know Karl Groom from Threshold? Super guitarist. Michael Schenker is one who plays with much feeling, always underestimated. It is amazing what he wrote in the early times of UFO. Petrucci is a really good guitarist. But he is an absolute technician, plays with little feeling. Yeah, Malmsteen is also one of the best, can play increadible fast.
Aeonblade
Jun 8 2007, 05:24 AM
Michael Schenker is great, early UFO is awesome. He played Lipstick Traces completely with his feet, and Rock Bottom has a killer solo. When Malmsteen is at the top of his game, you can't touch him, but he hasn't really done anything great in a long long time.
Zelos_Wilder
Jun 8 2007, 05:48 AM
Love to Love is my favourite UFO song. Rock Bottom is a very good song too and I love Doctor Doctor.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=bQzwqGBLYn0This is a video with Ritchie Blackmore, my favourite. He improvised nearly the complete solo. I love it to see him playing so I wanted to share this great solo with others. Hope you like it.

Meh, emotion lies always in the eye of the beholder, in this case, the listener.
Most people claim that instrumentals don't have any emotion in them, just because of the missing vocals, I personally don't find any sight of emotion in today's pop / rock / emo / mallcore genres...

I agree with you. Mainstream, only the money is important. It's sad, but true. In the past, artists wanted to express themselves and critizised politic, society and economy.

Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Frank Zappa, John Fahey, Neil Young, Keiji Haino and D. Boon.
They all are absolutely wonderful in heir own ways; even Page has been inspired by Fahey's works, as well as Haino. Maybe the best of them is just Fahey.
D. Boon and Neil Young got suc a particular style, its terrific.
I would have added Oxbow's guitarist, but I might would have been taken for someone who's just here to make "the wise one that got style". It's not my purpose, but they're all my real thoughts.
